Within 24 hours of your job interview, it’s a good idea to send a follow-up email to thank the interviewer for their time and reiterate your interest in the job.
There are usually two occasions when you may want to send a job interview follow-up email. The first is straight after your job interview. The second is to act as a gentle nudge if you haven’t heard back after a while.
When writing your follow-up email, choose a professional subject line. Examples may include ‘Thanks for Your Time’ and ‘It Was Great Speaking to You’.
Make sure you thank the interviewer for their time. Of course, you want to reiterate your interest in the job, but you should make sure you convey your appreciation for the interviewer’s time.
After you’ve thanked the interviewer for their time, reiterate your interest in the job. This will show interviewers that you’re enthusiastic and eager to get started.
Use your follow-up email to show the value that you can bring to the job. By highlighting your skills, experiences and value, interviewers will see you as a strong candidate for the job.
Bring your follow-up email to an end by thanking the interviewer once again and stating that you hope to hear from them.
If you have addressed the interviewer by name in the email, always end your email with ‘yours sincerely’.
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to thank you for your time yesterday. It was a pleasure to interview with you for the role of customer service advisor.
I am very excited about this opportunity as I believe I can add a great deal of value to your company. With over 10 years’ experience in customer service and a track record of exceeding customer service targets, I am sure I could make an instant impact in this role.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss my experiences further.

If the recipient doesn’t reply to your follow-up email within three or four days, send one more follow-up email. Don’t be pushy, but reiterate your interest and suitability for the job.
